A Few Showers.. A poem by Gene

After the sun of the last few days,
the clouds seem so gray.

The drizzle falling, not enough
to wet the concrete.

But, the air smells clean,
and promises spring.

I'm thankful for the drops,
which will bring the flowers.

The five Murphy’s Laws.

  • Murphy’s Law #1 states: "Whatever can go wrong will go wrong."
  • Murphy’s Law # 2 states: "Of all the things that can possibly go wrong, the worst of them will go wrong."
  • Murphy’s Law #3 states: "No matter how much time you have allocated, it always takes longer than you planned."
  • Murphy’s Law #4 states: "No matter how much money you have allocated, it always costs more."
  • Murphy’s Law #5 states: "Before you can do anything, you have to do something else first."

Support your local state parks... #Ecomonday

National Geographic Guide to the State Parks of the United States, 3rd Edition (National Geographic's Guide to the State Parks of the United States)In this time of budget cuts it is important that we support our local state parks. State after state is deciding that the recreational benefits of parks are not as important as other things.

In South Carolina, you can add a "check-off" on your tax return to give a $1 to the state parks.

In many states, you can purchase an annual pass which helps support the parks and saves you money on visits.

You can also volunteer at your local park or donate money to help with their operation. If you enjoy State Parks.. do something to help them.

Beware of all enterprises that require new clothes.
--Henry David Thoreau

One of the things that amazes me is how much people spend on clothes for one-time occasions. Thoreau discussed how we are always chasing the newest fashions...

The Academy Awards are a prime example of this. How many millions of dollars was spent on the dresses that will never be worn again? How many people sat glued to the TV watching the stars walk down the red carpet in those gowns?

This is not anything against the actors and actresses in the movies, it is more about the society which requires them to dress up to receive their awards.

The most I can do for my friend is simply to be his friend.

I have no wealth to bestow on him. If he knows that
I am happy in loving him, he will want no other reward.
Is not friendship divine in this?
